Pritzker School FAQ

Q: If I live in the neighborhood boundaries, can my child be placed in Pritzker’s Options program if he/she passes?

A: Not necessarily. Preference is not given to neighborhood children. However, the Office of Academic Enhancement could place them here if Pritzker is a preference.

Q: Is diversity embraced at Pritzker?

A: Absolutely! Because we have a Fine Arts magnet program and an Options program, we receive students from all parts of the city. With this, comes students from all socio-economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

Q: Where do your students go to high school?

A: A majority of our students are accepted to selective enrollment schools such as Walter Payton, Whitney Young, Jones Prep, ChiArts, and Northside Prep. Some students opt for private high schools, or IB schools such as Lincoln Park.

Q: What are your class sizes?

A: From Kindergarten to 3rd grade, classes can hold up to 28 kids. For grades 4th through 8th, there can be as many as 32 students.

Q: How do teachers meet the needs of different learners?

A: Teachers continually monitor student progress in all areas. This is done formally and informally during the course of the day. With this, K-2nd teachers assess using DIBELS, while 4th-8th teachers using data collected during the benchmark tests and from ISAT. With this data, teachers continually group and regroup students to instruct them in small groups to meet their individual needs.

Q: What are your school hours?

A: The school day starts at 9:30 and ends at 3:15. We offer before school care (8-9) which is tuition based and the Jewish Community Center Afterschool Program is also housed at Pritzker. In addition to this, we have a variety of after school programs for K-8th grade. Wicker Park and North Avenue Day Care are located right down the street, so students can attend these programs as well.
